License Expiration
Please be advised that pursuant to NRS 641A.235(2), the Nevada issued license of a Marriage and Family Therapist license and a Clinical Professional Counselor expires on January 1st of every other year. Therefore, the license renewal fee of $450.00 must be post dated by the 31st of December. Pursuant to NRS 641A.270 failure to pay the fee for renewal automatically affects a revocation of the license on date of expiration of the license.
To Renew Your License
To renew, reactivate or reinstate your license, use the Online Licensing System and mail a check or money order made payable to NVBOE for $450.00 to the Board office.
The Renewal Form or online process is also used for Inactive Status. Licensees on inactive status or wishing to be placed on Inactive status must also fill out this form. A fee of $100.00 is required for initial Inactive status placement which is then good for not more than two consecutive years. If you are currently on inactive status it is NOT necessary to send a check. Please place the word “INACTIVE” above your license number on the form.
Continuing Education
Pursuant to NAC 641A.131, every licensed marriage and family therapist and clinical professional counselor shall accumulate a minimum of 40 CEUs every other year beginning in 2020. At least six (6) of the CEUs must be in Ethics issues specifically pertaining to the field of practice of the marriage and family therapist or the clinical professional counselor, respectively. Additionally, the licensee must have at least four (4) CEUs in Suicide Prevention.
If the licensee is an approved supervisor, at least two hours of the CEU requirements must be in supervision, in issues specifically pertaining to the supervision of the field of practice of the approved supervisor. A marriage and family therapist or clinical professional counselor licensee shall not use more than 10 hours of static distance education to satisfy requirements.
A marriage and family therapist or clinical professional counselor licensed by this Board may satisfy the requirements of licensure renewal by teaching at an institution, seminar, workshop, conference or other program, course material, the content of which must be related to the field of practice of marriage and family therapy or clinical professional counseling and may not be part of the primary or regular employment of the therapist or counselor. For each such hour taught, 2 hours of CEUs may be credited.
Licensees will need to keep a record of Reported CEU’s for up to five years in case your name is selected for a random audit conducted by the board office. If this occurs, licensees will need to produce a copy of the certificate of attendance for verification of their training units.
