After Your Internship Has Been Approved

You Must Submit Six-Month Reports

You must submit six-month reports on the approved forms and upload to your licensure portal. Reports are due March 15th and September 15th of each year until your internship is completed. This is your responsibility. Should you have no hours to report during any six-month period, please complete the forms, list hours as “0” and submit. Failure to report may result in withdrawal of internship.

Experience Required For Full Licensure

Before an applicant is eligible for licensure as a therapist or counselor, they must complete at least 3,000 hours of experience in an approved internship, including: 

  • a minimum of 1500 hours of direct contact with clients in the practice of marriage and family therapy or the practice of clinical professional counseling
  • a minimum of 300 hours of supervision including, 160 hours with a Board approved primary supervisor and a minimum of 40 hours with a Board approved secondary supervisor(s).

At least 1200 hours of work related to to the practice of marriage and family therapy or clinical professional counseling. These hours must be in addition to the hours required above. They can be comprised of:

  • Up to 500 direct client contact hours performed in graduate school
  • Up to 600 hours of leading group psychotherapy or process groups
  • Up to 200 hours of teaching such as leading sessions for parent/family education or leading workshops
  • Up to 150 hours of personal therapy received from a licensed mental health professional
  • Up to 200 hours of training approved by the primary supervisor
