Nevada Revised Statute 641A.230 also empowers the Board to examine candidates on their knowledge of Marriage and Family Therapy literature. Therefore, each qualified applicant for a license to practice marriage and family therapy must pass a written examination given by the Board on his knowledge of marriage and family therapy.
The Board shall accept receipt of an official copy of a passing grade by a qualified applicant on the national MFT examination sponsored by the Association of Marital and Family Therapy Regulatory Boards (AMFTRB) to meet testing requirements.
Marriage and Family Therapist Interns are eligible to sit for the written portion of the examination after one year of internship training and must successfully pass the examination before they may be licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist. After one year of internship training an eligible intern may take the exam at any time prior to the end of the internship.
Computerized examinations are administered in January, May and September of each year by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC). Eligible applicants and interns should make request to the Board in writing to have their name submitted for testing.
